I.       5th Grade Science

            Parent conference availability: 1:45 – 3:00 Monday-Friday, other times by appointment.  Tutoring & make up work opportunities:  Wednesdays 3:00 – 3:30, must have a scheduled appointment with parent permission

II. Class Objectives – Science

There are 7 goals for 5th grade science:

Physical 1. Understand force, motion, and the relationship between them.

Physical 2Understand the interactions of matter and energy and the changes that occur.

Physical 3.   Explain how the properties of some materials change as a result of heating and cooling.

Earth 1. Understand weather patterns and phenomena, making connections to the weather in a particular place and time.

Life 1. Understand how structures and systems of organisms (to include the human body) perform functions necessary for life. 

Life 2. Understand the interdependence of plants and animals with their ecosystem.

Life 3. Understand why organisms differ from or are similar to their parents based on characteristics of the organisms.

III.       Required Materials -   Students must bring Notebook/folder, Homework, pencils, notebook paper, and assignments to class each day.

 IV.        Class Expectations

1. Be in your assigned seat/area, ready to work following unpacking book bag.

2. Have paper, pencils, books, and all needed supplies everyday.

3. Keep hands, feet, books, and objects to yourself.

4. No profanity, rude gestures, teasing, or put downs.

5. Follow directions of school personnel.

 V.    School Wide Expectations                           

Expectation #1 - Be Responsible

             1. Take responsibility for your actions

            2. Be to class on time.

Expectation #2 - Be Prepared

            1. Have all necessary materials with you

Expectation #3 - Show Respect

            1. Follow adult direction

            2. Use polite language

    3. Remain quiet while others are speaking                    

Expectation 4 - Always Do Your Best

   1. Be Engaged

           2. Participate

   3. If you do not know - ASK

Consequences

Step 1: Verbal redirect

Step 2: Teacher conference with student

Step 3: Teacher contacts parent by phone, letter, or email

Step 4: Parent/Teacher conference

Step 5: Office Referral

VI.    Grading Scale

            90-100       A

            80-89         B

            70-79         C

            60-69         D

            Below 59    F

 VII.    Grading Procedure

.   There will be weekly quizzes given every Friday. Class work assignments and homework will be given as needed. Students will be graded using a total point’s scale. This means that each assignment (homework, tests, quizzes,class work, and projects) will be worth 100 points and a final average will be calculated by adding all points and dividing by the total number of assignments.
